Found a really cool kindergarten building today on Archdaily website. Its not the most incedible facade but the building as a whole is actually really nice. The facade treatment creates the image of grass or reeds, which is a reference to the imeadiate context of the building, it also functions as a external shading device. Situated next to a sort of reedy swamp the building reflects this form and also creates itself as a bit of a landmark.
The green of the facade is continued though into the interior of the building. The theory behind this is that green is a calming colour which in theory keeps al those little Austrian kids under control.
The Architects areKadawittfeldarchitektur.
Its located in Sighartstein, Land Salzburg, Austria

"we have chosen green as the ‘color of life, youth, and spring.’ "
"
The psychological workings of the color green play an important role: Green is a color that calms and harmonizes. Green enhances qualities such as helpfulness, endurance, tolerance, and contentedness. In color therapy, green is viewed as a neutral healing color that balances without causing bodily pain or counter-reactions. It creates a space for gathering energy and promotes regeneration."

Context

After the hand in of the esquisse booklet and the feedback that followed I have been trying to think of ways to apply my project into the context of Perth. The Dupain Building by ARM works so well, in my opinion, because of the quality and reputation of the Max Dupain image that is used. The image created by the building facade is in fact a very simplified version of the origional Photo. The great thing about the Photo is that it is a very recognisable image within the context of Australia. In particilar for Sydney siders it represents a number of emotive feelings about Sydney and the lifestyle of the city. Even though the building only really shows the outline of the two figures that is enough to remind the informed viewer of the origional image and the meaning of the image is fully experienced. I've been thinking hard about what could be done in a similar way within the context of perth................. yeah, pretty hard to think of any well known iconic images of Perth. I'l have to keep thinking about it.

Storey Hall

Storey Hall, an earlier ARM project. This one is a bit off topic because the annexe/facade is not really creating an image but it does explore the some complex ideas of reference to building context and history. It was a pretty controversial unveiling when this was completed.

Booklet

Here's my proposal booklet for the major project.

eureka!

I found another unbuilt project by ARM using the same technique as the Dupain building. This time the image is on the vertical shading devices. The cool thing about this one is the way it plays with the perspective of the viewer as they pass by the building.

Heritage Facade

This is a really cool project from Melbourne. It's similar to the Newman house in the way its executed but so much cooler. This is an awsome take on how to approach heritage architecture.
The facade is an image of the old workers cottage that was on the site before. Its a great was of placing a modern contempory building into a historical context. I really like how in this photo the tree on the building lines up with the tree in the block behind.

Just some more images from Apparati Effimeri some really cool imagery from an architectural projection perfomance.

Here's another example of image on building facade from a few years back. It's Newman house in St Kilda by architect Cassandra Fahey. A good reflection of the client's personality.

ARM

Kronberg Clinic

This is an earlier work by ARM I'm sure is well known to most.
But this is also a good example of the reproduction of image on a building. This project is a pre cursor to ARM's more recent Dupain building design.
A pretty straightforward process, the first image is of Venturi's mothers house which has been distorted by moving the origional during photocopying. The resultant image is then pixelated and translated to the built form by using different coloured bricks in the facade as the pixels.

Architectural Video Performance

The Savoye Sweep

This is the form created from the Villa Savoye model and fly through tute exersise. The colours refer to materials in each of the shots from the fly through animation. The different 2D forms are joined together to create a 3D object using the sweep function in Rhino.

These are some of the shots taken from the savoye tute. They are just a couple of the frames frome the fly through animation I created in Max. After this process I then created a form using the spline the fly through camera tracked along in combination with these screen shots and colours of the materials in the model.

Here some of my process for the villa savoye modeling tute. We had to build up the model from the plan we were given. I think we were supposed to use Max but i had to use Rhino because I haven't used Max to model for ages.

Here's a image from one of the Apparati Effimeri installation project.
The way the projection onto the building just completely transforms it into something almost plastic or computer generated is incredible.
