I came across this program that has some cool applications within my project. It uses images that you define to recreate a image of your choice. So I've been trying it out by using some images of single bricks to make up brick wall that creates an image.
This is the first thing I tried. The Cottesloe Beach Pylon. The image gets better as you increase the number of bricks or tiles used.
