Thinking about images that would be suitable for a project in the context of Perth I've come up with a couple of ideas. Some are a little crazy but its all for fun anyway. Firstly, the Dupain building by ARM got me thinking about Perth and our own beach culture. Some of the iconic images that spring to mind are of Cottesloe beach. This is probably Perth's best known beaches and the one that most tourists would head for when visiting. An image of this beach would also be a very easily recognisable even if the image was of just a small feature of the location at the sort of low resolution that an image on a building would be. I would also want the image to be recognisable to the local public almost instantly but slightly ambiguous through the use of a low resolution. Some of the major features of Cottesloe beach that I am considering are the surf club building which now has the Indiana Tea House on top of it. The other sort of landmark object would have to be the pylon in the water directly in front of the surf club. One of the other emotive major features of the beach landscape of Cottesloe are the large Norfolk Pines. These tall trees act as a landmark for the beach from large distances away. They can even be used on clear days to locate Cottesloe when looking back to the mainland from Rottenest Island. The Cottesloe groin is also another major feature of the beach. Although I think that the groin at Cottesloe is a hard image to capture properly in order for it to be easily recognisable. I think the winner for me is the image of the Norfolk Pines. This could be used successfully to create a building that would instantly remind people of our Perth beach culture and lifestyle.
